RX7.COM Booth With the first event of the season already upon us, we rushed to get our cars ready in time. During the off season, Ari's RX-7.COM car received some minor upgrades which focused primarily on improving safety and the chassis. Last season saw us dip closer and closer to the 9 second territory so we knew we had to make changes to protect the driver and others before aiming for more power. Still utilizing the stock Mazda unibody chassis and drivetrain, we've added a NHRA legal weld in roll cage and other safety items to keep the car legal when we eventually dip into the 9 second realm.

Unfortunately, not all of our cars were ready for this event but they will be debuting at either the March 12th event in Houston or the April 30th event in Dallas. Be on the lookout for Steve, Brent, and others who've spent most of the off-season building up their own RX-7 monsters.

Ari in the Staging Lanes With only some minor tuning to the new Haltech E6K, we headed out to Houston for our first runs ever with this new chassis setup. Arriving just in time for the first round of qualifying, we quickly unloaded the car and rushed to the staging lanes to make our run. With a easy launch to feel out the car, Ari breezed through the lights with a 10.394 @ 131.69 mph. Without the aid of nitrous and running only a moderate 20psi of boost through our GReddy T78 Turbo Kit, we looked to be in good shape for the RWD Quick 8 competition as we captured the 1st place qualifier spot on this first run.

Already in good position for the Quick 8 competition, we used the second qualifying attempt to further tune in the suspension and let Ari get comfortable with the car again. Taking a slightly more aggressive run at it, Ari tripped the lights at 10.299 @ 136.01 mph. Still getting too much wheel spin at the launch which resulted in a poor 60' time, the car showed to be making good power when running turbo only as seen in the 136mph trap speed. We had yet to use the 75HP shot of nitrous that has been used on the car reliably for nearly 2 years.

Quick 8 Competition
Ari's 10.29 run - 1.3MB, Please Save to your Hard Drive Qualified for the RWD Quick 8 competition was our own RX-7.COM car driven by Ari Yallon. Also qualified was Aaron Imler's 1994 RX-7, a nitrous feed NSX running strong 11s, a high 10 second old school Tercel, a MZM (Austin, TX) built 12 second Turbo II, a AWD Diamond Star car, and two other low 13 second cars.

In the first round Ari was lined up against the AWD Diamond Star. Taking extra care not to redlight, Ari made an easy pass and took the win with a 11.797 @ 90.99 mph run beating out the 13.737 @ 101.61 mph run of the Diamond Star. Also advancing to the semi final rounds was Aaron Imler's RX-7, the nitrous feed NSX and the old school Tercel. For the second round, the unfortunate thing that always seems to happen did...the two RX-7s left in competition were lined up against eachother so that only one would advance into the finals. As Aaron had been running strong all day, Ari had no room to make any mistakes. Unfortunately for Aaron, he jumped off the line too early which resulted in a redlight and gave Ari the automatic win. It was still a good run for Aaron nonetheless as he still pulled an easy 12.358 @ only 109.47. With the win, Ari advanced to the final round to face the 10 second Toyota Tercel.

Aaron Imler on the track With the track cooling down greatly after the sun set, the final round proved to be pretty tricky as all the fast cars were slipping and sliding all over the track. As Ari lined up against the Tercel, the stage was set to pull off a quick time in the cool night air. As the lights came down, the Tercel left the line first with a superb 0.545 reaction time. Ari quickly pulled into the lead by the 330' mark and continued to pull away. Unfortunately, the slick track prevented a clean pass as Ari was forced to get in and out of the throttle to keep the car straight and ended the quarter with a 10.470 @ 133.41 mph taking the 1st place win in the first RWD Quick 8 of the season.

Thanks to everyone that helped us set up for the event. All of our friends and customers that came to support us, and everyone with a RX-7 that ran at the event.

Thanks also to our sponsors, GReddy, Rotary Performance, and Haltech.
