ID Drag Wars April 30th
RX7.COM comes ready for the party, but has to give it up for Mother Nature.

Team RX7.COM returned to the racetrack for the first time since the "Florida Incident" only two weeks before. The race damage from the 100+mph impact caused enough damage to make repairs challenging, to say the least. The entire right side of the car and several of the structural components had to be changed out. To make matters worse, the timetable was pushed so hard that the car arrived from the body shop at 6:00pm Friday…the weekend of the race. Of course, completely disassembled. That began the grueling process of bringing the car back to race condition. Reassembly, dyno tuning, alignment, etc. etc. After a 36-hour marathon, she was ready to tangle with the best.

We arrived at the event a bit late, tired and weary, but chomping at the bit to give the 'ole girl a try. Weather conditions in the Dallas area had been questionable for the past couple days with spotty rain. Unfortunately, our racing was cut short by immediate downpours not but a half hour after we arrived. Since the rains never let up long enough to allow the track to be dried out, the show was called off. Nonetheless, it was impressive to get everything back in such a quick period of time.

Texas has become a magnet for high-profile cars. Lisa Kubo and Kenny Tran were prepared to settle the battle of King vs. Queen. Texas favorites like SGP racing with their 300ZX and Flauta racing came as expected. Due to the rain shortened race day, the grudge matches will have to wait until the Texas August rematch.

Congratulations are in order for Steve Kan and his 1993 model. Once again, leave it the Steve to pull off another great showing. Arriving early enough to show off his new found muscle (and beat the rain), Steve ran an impressive 10.5! This blasted right past his previous best of 11.01. Brent Butcher had his 1993 model prepared and ready to go, but luck was not in his favor as the rains brought his race day to an end. Sporting a fresh motor and a bit of new attitude under the hood, expect Brent to turn some heads in the coming events.

We'd like to say a special thanks to all the folks who helped put everything back together. Mazda really pulled out the stops on getting us the parts in a timely fashion. Krause Master Autobody for the major surgery. Vinyl Mayhem for the new graphics. And, of course, all the members of the RX7.COM crew for the countless hours of putting "Humpty Dumpty" back together again. Let's hope we never have to do it again
